Public Exhibition of the Rocky Hill Coal Project has commenced

17 August 2016

R.W. Corkery and Co. are pleased to announce the commencement of the public exhibition of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the amended Rocky Hill Coal Project, a new proposed coking coal project southeast of Gloucester. The EIS and accompanying documents will be on public exhibition from Wednesday 17 August 2016 until Friday 14 October 2016. The amended Project is the result of an agreement between Gloucester Resources Limited and Yancoal Australia Limited that will see sized Run-of-Mine (ROM) coal from the Rocky Hill Coal Mine processed at the existing facilities operated at the Stratford Coal Mine and the despatch of high quality coking coal directly from that mine, reducing the local environmental impacts associated with duplicating this process.

The amended Rocky Hill Coal Project has been designed and would be operated to achieve a high standard of environmental performance. Progressive and final rehabilitation is planned in line with best practice and includes a final landform with no retained final void and a return to agricultural activities. The amended Rocky Hill Coal Project would also provide sought-after employment and an economic boost to Gloucester and surrounding areas.

For information regarding the public exhibition including access to download copies of the documents and the locations where hard copies of the documents can be viewed, please visit the following websites.

The preparation of the amended EIS has involved considerable multi-disciplinary specialist consultant input and as the lead consultancy for the assessment, RWC would like to thank all those who contributed to the preparation of the EIS.

A modification to the development consent for the Stratford Coal Mine to permit receipt of sized ROM coal from the Rocky Hill Coal Mine is also being exhibited in conjunction with the Rocky Hill Coal Project. Information regarding this modification can be found at the Department of Planning and Environment - Major Projects website (Modification to Stratford Extension Project).
